Dotting the valley north of Pescia are
the old fortified villages called Le Castella, which because
of the unspoilt natural landscape, reminded the Swiss historian
Sismondi of his homeland, Switzerland. It is for this reason
that this area has taken on the name, Svizzera Pesciatina.
